DEKALB, ILL, October 5, 2022 – Clue. It is one of the world’s most popular board games and who hasn’t used the phrase, Colonel Mustard did it with the revolver in the Study, or one similar? This November, Stage Coach Players (SCP) will produce the play Clue: On Stage, a comedy based on the 1985 film. It features all of the murders and memorable characters from the film of the same name. Clue: On Stage opens on November 3, 2022 and is sponsored by George and Ginny Ziders.
Clue: On Stage is directed by Tim Ball, who most recently directed the holiday classic It’s A Wonderful Life in 2019. Clue: On Stage begins as six people have been invited to Boddy Manor, a deserted mansion in New England. They are asked not to use their real names and are given names such as Ms. Peacock and Mrs. White.
After the guests have settled in, we learn that their host, Mr. Boddy has been blackmailing them all! Each are given a separate weapon in the Study with instructions to kill the butler, Wadsworth, to help Boddy tie off a loose end and to terminate their blackmail. The lights are turned off, screams and then two gunshots are heard. When the lights return, Boddy lays on the floor. Dead. Col. Mustard had the revolver, but he claims not to have shot Boddy. Yvette screams from the Billiard and before we know it, Mr. Green has found the Cook stabbed in the Kitchen.
What happens next is filled with silliness and sleuthing as the group tries to figure out who exactly killed Boddy. Doing this all while trying not to become the killer’s next victim. Was it Ms. Scarlet or Professor Plum? And what secrets did Boddy have on them to make them want to kill him?
The game Clue (known as Cluedo outside of North America) was devised in 1943 and first manufactured by Waddington’s in the UK in 1949. It is considered one of the top two or three popular board games ever created. This stage version is based on the film which starred Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Eileen Brennan, and Christopher Lloyd, among other great comedic actors.
