Season’s Greetings!
During the December Stage Coach Players board of directors meeting, the board decided to begin posting on the SCP web site a monthly recap of board business, current committees’ activities, the status of current and long-term projects, and upcoming events that are happening at Stage Coach Players. Our many committees are hard at work to create our next season, improve our building, increase our technical capabilities, support our community, make fiscally responsible decisions, and make sure the legacy of Stage Coach Players continues long into the future.
Taking advantage of incentives offered by ComEd that resulted in a near 90 percent cost savings on the installation, the theatre has recently undergone a compete swap-out of all incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and lighting fixtures to cost-saving LED type. SCP’s electric bills have already dropped and will result in an average savings of over $3000 per year.
The Building and Grounds team is working to install two new bathroom vanities and to replace the two sinks in the downstairs men’s bathroom. In an effort to regain building and floor space, they are also reviewing the doors and windows currently stored in the basement with the intent to dispose of unrepairable items or pieces that are no longer of use. In addition and for a second time in three years, furniture and set pieces that can be easily borrowed or can be built on an as-needed basis will be thrown out or donated. Ultimately, rehearsal space for upcoming plays will be restored.
The Community Outreach Committee has had very successful holiday season drives for Toys for Tots, Salvation Army, and Club 55. They are looking forward to a Valentine’s Day event as our next outreach project.
Play Reading Committee, Board Member Nominations Committee, and Awards Committee are all meeting these last couple of weeks of 2022. The board of director nominations will be sent to the membership in advance of the vote to be held at our annual banquet.
The annual membership banquet will be held on January 28, 2023, at 5 p.m. at El Jimador restaurant in downtown DeKalb. Save-the-dates have been posted via email and on Facebook. Invites will be sent soon.
SCP will host a Celebration of Life for Andee Larson, long time member, actor, director and board member, on January 21, 2023, from 2–5 p.m. at the theater.
