Stage Coach Players Celebrates 75th Season with a State Resolution and Picnic

DEKALB, ILL., June 9, 2021 — Stage Coach Players (SCP) is celebrating their 75th Season marking the anniversary of their first ever production, Pure as the Driven Snow, which opened on March 27, 1947, with a year of activities for both the public and their membership.  “We are so very excited to be finally kicking off our 75th season!” said Jan Kuntz, chairperson of the 75th Season Committee.

A resolution passed by the Illinois General Assembly will be presented by Illinois State Representative Jeff Keicher on Wed., June 23, 2021, at 10 a.m. at the theatre, 126 S. Fifth Street in DeKalb. Keicher, who represents Illinois’ 70th District, presented the resolution to the house floor on May 5, 2021. It passed the following day.  Everyone is welcome to attend the pronouncement.

Continuing the celebration, SCP will hold a picnic for their members on Sun., June 27, 2021, at which DeKalb Mayor Cohen Barnes and Sycamore Mayor Steve Braser will make a joint proclamation declaring the week starting June 27, 2021, as Stage Coach Players Week. The picnic will be at the Cortland Lions Den adjacent to the Cortland Community Park, 70 S. Llanos St. in Cortland. Parking is shared.

After waiting in the wings during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the curtain closing on their last production of the year, Visiting Mr. Green, on Sun., Feb. 2, 2020, SCP’s stage remained dark throughout the rest of 2020 and into 2021. SCP was finally able to cue the lights and open the theatre for their first live production in over a year with  Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean on Thurs., May 20, 2021.  SCP will continue to celebrate their 75th season throughout the year with more live and virtual productions along with continued community outreach.

“Look for more fun events throughout the year that will celebrate 75 years of Stage Coach Players theatre!” Kuntz added.
