DEKALB, ILL, January 28, 2023 – Stage Coach Players (SCP) announces its general auditions for its 2023 slate of summer shows. Auditions will be held March 3rd, 4th and 5th at the First Lutheran Church in DeKalb located at 324 N. 3rd Street in DeKalb.
Stage Coach Players will be holding auditions for six plays that will run from late April through October. They include the British farce Funny Money; Love, Loss, & What I Wore, a comedy built about monologues and ensemble pieces; the bluegrass musical Bright Star; the ensemble drama Nickel and Dimed; the comedic musical The Addams Family; and The Night Witches, a Second World War period drama.
Bernie Schuneman, director of Funny Money will looking for two men and two women, in their 30’s to 50’s, two men or women, also in their 30’s to 50’s, one man or woman, 40’s or older, and one man in his 40’s to 50’s. British accents preferred at auditions. Love, Loss, & What I Wore is directed by Maria L.P. Boynton. She will be looking for a minimum of five adult women.
Bright Star director Steven Meerdink and musical director Sandra Josef will be seeking a cast of 18-20 men and women aged 16 and older. The lead female role plays the age range of 17 – 37 while the lead male plays the age range of 20 – 40. All cast sings and dances, which includes basic stage dance and clogging. The director for Nickel and Dimed, David W. Booth needs six actors, ages 20 to 60, to portray up to six entirely different personalities and roles. There will be a need for one Latina and Spanish speaking woman, three white women, and one African-American woman, along with one white man. He will also need 6 to 10 extras who will be in various background roles. All roles will require a strong range of physicality and the ability to move quickly onstage.
The Addams Family director Jeff Hall will be looking for around 20 men and women ages 16 and older and one child of any gender age 12 and up. There will be a dance audition. Leigh Foulk, director of The Night Witches will need 11-13 women, ages 14 and older. At least 9 of these women will need to be comfortable with choreographed movement, but there will be opportunities for all levels of ability. All women will be required to sing acapella in a group, and two will have solos. Accents will not be required.
Auditions will take place Friday, March 3, 2023 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday, March 4 and 5, 2023 from 1 – 5 p.m.. Any callbacks will be held on the Sunday immediately following the general auditions.
