Stage Coach Players to Hold Auditions Feb. 16 – 18, 2024

DEKALB, IL, January 15, 2024 – Stage Coach Players (SCP) announces auditions for the first three productions of its 2024 season.  Auditions will be held February 16 -18, 2024, at the First Lutheran located at 324 N. 3rd Street in DeKalb.

Stage Coach Players will be holding auditions for plays that will run from mid-April through July.  They include One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Steel Magnolias, and Cabaret.  Auditions for all plays will include cold readings from the shows.

Auditions will take place Fri., Feb. 16, 2024, from 6 – 9 p.m., Sat., Feb. 17, 2024, from 1 – 5 p.m. and on Sun., Feb. 18, 2024, from 1 – 4 p.m.  Callbacks will be held on Sun., Feb. 18, 2024, immediately following the general auditions from 4 – 6 p.m.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the stage adaptation of Ken Kesey’s novel by Dale Wasserman is being directed by Scott Montavon.  The drama explores the brutality of life in a mental institution with humor, candor, and unforgettable characters.  The director is looking for 12 to 13 men.  One actor is between 18 to 30 years old, while the rest of the men are late 20’s and older.  Additionally, one man needs to be very large and native American looking in appearance.  There are four women, early 20’s to 60.

Robert Harling’s popular comedy/drama Steel Magnolias will be directed by Ryan Washabaugh.  The story is concerned with a small group of southern ladies set in a small-town beauty parlor with an ensemble of six strong spirited women.  It is alternately hilarious and touching.  Needed are two women able to play ages 18 – 24, two women able to play ages 35 – 50 and two women with big personalities able to play ages 60 and older.  Southern American accents are required.  Come prepared with a 1-minute serio-comic monologue that showcases your acting range.  Reach out to scpsteelmags@gmail.com with any questions about auditions.

Steven Meerdink directs Cabaret (1998 Version) with Music Direction by Terri Crain Goodman.  The music is by John Kander and Fred Ebb with a book by Joe Masteroff.  Set in 1929 – 1930 Berlin as the Nazis rise to power, the musical focuses on the hedonistic nightlife at the Kit Kat Klub.  The director needs 8 women and 8 men, all who must be at least 18 years of age.  Every cast member must sing and dance. Auditions will consist of singing 32 bars of a musical theatre song not from the show and will learn a short dance routine and reading from the script.  An accompanist will be provided but auditioners must bring the accompaniment music in the key you are singing.
